In season 3, episode 5 of "Restaurant: Impossible," host Robert Irvine travels to New Jersey to help the struggling Pelican Grill. The restaurant, owned by siblings Tom and Patty, is facing financial hardships and their relationship is strained.
Upon arriving, Irvine immediately notices the outdated decor and lack of atmosphere in the restaurant. The menu is unfocused and the kitchen is disorganized, with food being sent out too slowly and often cold. The staff appears unmotivated and Tom and Patty are unsure of how to turn things around.
Irvine spends time observing the kitchen and service, taking note of the restaurant's strengths and weaknesses. He then meets with Tom and Patty to discuss his plan of action. They are hesitant but willing to make changes.
The first challenge is to rebrand and give the restaurant a fresh new look. Irvine brings in a designer to transform the space into a coastal-themed restaurant that reflects the name of the establishment.
Next, Irvine works with the kitchen staff to streamline the menu and focus on fresh, local ingredients. He teaches them new dishes that are easy to prepare and will appeal to customers. He also helps organize the kitchen so that food can be prepared and served more quickly.
The staff is also given a pep talk and encouraged to work as a team. Irvine stresses the importance of communication and everyone working together to achieve success.
On the relaunch night, there are some early hiccups, but the staff pulls together and the food begins to flow smoothly. Customers are impressed with the new decor and menu, and the restaurant receives positive feedback.
At the end of the episode, Irvine checks in with Tom and Patty to see how the restaurant is doing. They express their gratitude and reveal that they are now able to pay off their debts and have seen an increase in business. The future looks bright for the Pelican Grill.
