Ep 3. Wine

Tommy Gavin's life is far from perfect. He's a recovering alcoholic and haunted by the ghosts of those he couldn't save as a firefighter. In this episode of Rescue Me, titled "Wine," we see Tommy struggling with the aftermath of his relationship with Sheila. Sheila, who is now engaged to another man, is still attempting to get back together with Tommy and he's having a hard time resisting her.

As Tommy navigates his feelings towards Sheila, he is also dealing with his sister's impending divorce. Colleen, his sister, is coming back home after separating from her husband and is looking to Tommy for advice and support. However, Tommy's own problems are making it hard for him to be there for her.

Meanwhile, the rest of the firehouse is dealing with their own issues. Lou is sober and trying to hard to stay that way, but he's facing challenges with his marriage. Franco is still dealing with the aftermath of his secret relationship with Alicia, who is now pregnant. And Sean is struggling with his new role as a father.

One of the key themes in this episode is addiction. Through Tommy, Lou, and Franco, we see how addiction can affect not just the individual, but those around them. We also see how difficult it can be to overcome addiction, even with the best intentions.

Another strong theme in "Wine" is family. We see the importance of family as both a source of support and a source of conflict. Tommy wants to be there for his sister, but his own issues are making that difficult. The firehouse is also like a family, and the relationships between the characters reflect that.

As always, Rescue Me does an excellent job of balancing drama with humor. There are moments of levity in "Wine" that help to break up some of the heavier themes. For example, Sheila attempts to seduce Tommy by bringing him to a fancy restaurant and ordering $900 worth of wine - only for Tommy to leave her with the bill.

Overall, "Wine" is a strong episode of Rescue Me that explores some of the key themes of the series. The characters are complex and well-developed, and the writing is sharp and nuanced. If you're a fan of the show, this episode is definitely worth checking out.
