Tommy Gavin and his fellow firefighters are back for another season of rescuing people and dealing with their own personal demons. In season 3 episode 2, titled "Devil," the firefighters of FDNY's 62 Truck are faced with a number of challenges.
Tommy is still struggling with the loss of his cousin Jimmy, who died in the line of duty at the end of season 2. He's also grappling with the fact that his ex-wife Janet has moved on and started dating again. Meanwhile, his brother Johnny is dealing with some personal demons of his own, as he tries to come to terms with the fact that he may have a drinking problem.
The episode opens with Tommy attending a support group for people who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. He's noticeably uncomfortable there, and it's clear that he's still struggling with his grief. As the meeting ends, one of the other members approaches Tommy and tells him that they need to talk.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew is out on a call. They're responding to a report of a man trapped in a burning building. When they arrive on the scene, they find that the man is trapped on the fourth floor, and there's no way for them to get to him from the outside.
As they search for a way in, it becomes clear that the situation is becoming more and more dangerous. The building is old and full of wood and other flammable materials, and the fire is spreading quickly. The heat is so intense that the firefighters are struggling to get close enough to the building to even attempt a rescue.
As the situation becomes more dire, tensions begin to run high among the crew. There's a sense of urgency and desperation as they try to figure out how to get to the trapped man before it's too late.
Back at the firehouse, things are no less intense. Johnny is starting to feel the effects of his drinking problem, and his behavior is becoming increasingly erratic. He's lashing out at his fellow firefighters, and they're starting to worry that he's going to hurt himself or someone else.
As the crew continues to work to rescue the trapped man, Tommy has his own problems to deal with. The person he met at the support group turns out to be the brother of his cousin Jimmy's widow, Sheila. Sheila has been struggling to cope with her loss, and Tommy feels responsible for helping her. He agrees to meet with her, but their conversation quickly becomes heated.
As the fire rages on, the trapped man's condition continues to deteriorate. It becomes clear that they're running out of time, and the firefighters may have to make a heartbreaking decision.
In the end, the crew is able to rescue the trapped man, but not without a cost. It's a bittersweet victory, and the firefighters are left to grapple with the consequences of their actions.
"Devil" is a tense and intense episode of Rescue Me, full of drama and emotion. The show continues to explore the complex lives of firefighters, and the toll that their job takes on them both physically and emotionally. As always, the performances are outstanding, and the writing is top-notch. Fans of the show won't be disappointed.
