Bounty hunter Reno Raines and one of his many informants, Little Tom Mason, try to capture the sadistic Butler brothers: Joe Don and P.J. Tom is killed, but Reno is saved from death when his employer, Bobby Six Killer, suddenly intervenes and rushes Reno to a hospital. Reno seeks revenge. He learns from Jake Henry, the Butlers' former driver, that Joe Don's ex-wife, Jessica Patterson, owns a horse ranch in Arizona and that Joe Don still loves her. Reno quits his job with Bobby and rides toward the ranch, hoping Joe Don will soon visit Jessica.
