In the season 1 finale of Relic Hunter titled "Memories of Montmartre," Sydney and Nigel are on the hunt for a lost painting by post-impressionist artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The painting is believed to have been hidden in the catacombs below the Montmartre district in Paris.
The episode begins with Sydney and Nigel meeting a man named Lucien, who claims to have information about the lost painting. Lucien takes them to Montmartre, where he shows them an old photo of Toulouse-Lautrec and a group of his artist friends. Lucien tells them that the painting in question was believed to be in an underground room in a building that was once owned by one of Toulouse-Lautrec's friends.
As they start their search, Sydney and Nigel are confronted by a group of thugs who are also looking for the painting. The thugs kidnap Nigel and demand that Sydney give them the painting when she finds it. Sydney manages to escape and continues her search with the help of Lucien.
The search takes them through the catacombs and into the underground room where the painting is believed to be hidden. Inside the room, Sydney and Lucien find the painting, but they are soon confronted by the thugs again. In the ensuing scuffle, the painting is damaged and Sydney and Lucien are forced to flee.
Back at their hotel, Sydney and Nigel try to repair the damaged painting while also figuring out a way to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. They soon realize that the painting is actually a forgery and that the real painting is still missing.
With the help of Lucien, they continue their search and eventually find the real painting hidden in a secret compartment in Toulouse-Lautrec's old studio. The episode ends with Sydney and Nigel returning the painting to its rightful owner and reflecting on the adventure they've just had.
