Mordecai and Rigby are two best friends working as groundskeepers at a park. In the season 8 episode 4 of Regular Show, Bad Portrait, Mordecai and Rigby's good friend Benson is preparing for a portrait contest but is struggling to find inspiration for his artwork. He decides to take a break and relax with Mordecai and Rigby, who offer to help him with his painting.
Benson is initially hesitant to take their help as he does not believe they are capable of contributing anything meaningful to his artwork. However, as Mordecai and Rigby start taking the lead on the project and come up with some interesting ideas, Benson begins to warm up to the idea of working collaboratively.
The trio spends the day brainstorming ideas, gathering materials, and working on the painting. However, as they near completion, they realize that something is not quite right with their artwork. They notice that the painting is taking on a life of its own and becoming more and more distorted with each stroke of the brush.
As the painting grows more and more grotesque, Mordecai, Rigby, and Benson realize that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. They try to stop the painting, but it has a will of its own and refuses to be contained. Before long, the painting becomes a full-blown monster that begins wreaking havoc throughout the park.
The trio tries to stop the monster painting with various tactics but none work. They realize that they need to think outside the box and come up with a different approach. They put their heads together and finally arrive at a solution - they use the materials from the painting to create a new, less dangerous work of art.
The new painting turns out to be a hit at the contest, and Benson is thrilled with the result. He thanks Mordecai and Rigby for their help and promises to always value their creative input from now on.
The episode ends with Mordecai and Rigby back at their regular duties, reflecting on the wild day they just had. They decide that they prefer working in the more orderly world of the park than in the unpredictable world of art, but agree that it was a fun experience nonetheless.
