Mordecai and Rigby start off the episode by playing some one-on-one basketball at the park. They're both pretty bad and neither can seem to score a basket. While they're playing, a group of cool teens show up and start playing basketball too. Mordecai and Rigby try to impress the teens with their basketball skills, but they end up embarrassing themselves instead.
Later on, Skips tells Mordecai and Rigby about a famous slam dunk contest happening in town that weekend. The winner will get a lifetime supply of chicken wings. The pair is excited about the prospect of winning so many chicken wings, and they decide to enter the contest. They go to the sign-up location, where they meet the host of the contest, a strange man named Muscle Man. He tells them they need to come up with an impressive routine to win the contest.
Mordecai and Rigby spend the entire day practicing their slam dunk routine. They come up with some pretty cool moves, but they still feel like they're missing something. Benson suggests that they try adding some special effects to their routine to make it more impressive. He loans them his old boombox and smoke machine, and Mordecai and Rigby are thrilled with the upgrade.
The day of the contest arrives, and Mordecai and Rigby are feeling confident. They show up dressed in their basketball gear, ready to impress the judges. However, once they start their routine, things start going wrong. Rigby misses a few shots, the smoke machine doesn't work, and the boombox breaks. The judges are unimpressed, and Mordecai and Rigby are devastated. They lose the contest, and their dreams of a lifetime supply of chicken wings are crushed.
Just when they're about to give up, the cool teens from the park show up. They offer to help Mordecai and Rigby with their routine, and the pair is grateful for the assistance. With their help, Mordecai and Rigby come up with a new and improved routine, full of tricks and moves they had never even thought of.
The next day, Mordecai and Rigby return to the contest. They jump and dunk and twirl, and the crowd goes wild. Their special effects work flawlessly, and their routine is full of energy. When they finish, the judges are amazed. They declare Mordecai and Rigby the winners, and the pair are overjoyed. They celebrate with the cool teens and their new friends, thrilled that they had won the chicken wings.
In the end, Mordecai and Rigby realize that it wasn't the chicken wings that mattered. It was the friends they made along the way and the sense of accomplishment they felt from winning the contest. They're grateful for Benson's advice, the cool teens' help, and all of the fun they had practicing for the contest. They decide to give some of their chicken wings to their new friends and celebrate together.
The episode ends with Mordecai and Rigby both eating chicken wings, happy and content with their victory. They look forward to their next adventure, and the many friends they'll meet along the way.
