Mordecai and Rigby, two friends who work as groundskeepers at a park, are excited when they learn that it's Benson's (their boss) birthday. They head to the convenience store to buy him a gift, but end up spending all their money on snacks instead.
Desperate for a gift, they remember that a local bakery is giving away a free cake to anyone who can guess the correct number of jellybeans in a jar. They immediately head to the bakery to try their luck.
Upon arrival, they meet the owner of the bakery, a grumpy old man named Death. He tells them that the contest is over and all the cakes have been claimed, but Mordecai and Rigby insist that they should still have a chance.
After several failed attempts, Death agrees to give them a chance if they can beat him in a game of rock-paper-scissors. They agree to the terms and the game begins.
The game is intense, with both parties going back and forth. Just when it seems like Death has won, Mordecai pulls out an unexpected move and wins the game. Death reluctantly gives them their cake, but warns them that it's not just any ordinary cake.
Mordecai and Rigby take the cake back to the park and present it to Benson, who is thrilled with the gift. They all begin to eat the cake, but soon notice that something is off. The cake is making them all hallucinate.
The trio's reality begins to warp as they see strange creatures and visions. They try to turn off the music that appears to be causing the hallucinations, but it only makes things worse. They begin to experience a shared hallucination and find themselves in a bizarre landscape.
As they try to find a way out of the strange world they've been transported to, they encounter a talking hot dog named Doug and a giant jellybean. The trio realizes that they are still under the influence of the cake and must find a way to break free from its grasp.
They eventually discover that the only way to escape is by coming to terms with their fears and facing them head-on. They confront their fears and defeat them, and are finally able to escape the hallucination.
Upon waking up, they realize that they had all fallen asleep from the cake and had been dreaming. Benson is furious with them for ruining his birthday with the strange cake, but they all laugh it off.
Mordecai and Rigby learn a valuable lesson about the consequences of their actions and realize that sometimes the things that seem too good to be true often are. They vow to think twice before jumping into something without fully understanding the consequences.
The episode ends with Death calling them and asking for a rematch in rock-paper-scissors, setting up a future storyline for the show.
