Ep 1. Psirens

The season 6 opener of Red Dwarf, titled "Psirens," finds the show's central cast in a state of disarray after being separated from one another. Rimmer (Chris Barrie), Kryten (Robert Llewellyn), Cat (Danny John-Jules), and Ace (Chris Barrie), who was last seen in the previous season finale, are all stranded on a desolate planet.

Each seeming to be the only survivor of their Red Dwarf crew, the episode begins with Rimmer trying to signal the others using the transporters, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Kryten comforts himself by taking apart various machines and designing a robotic suit, while Cat tries to come to terms with his newfound solitude.

Ace, on the other hand, is convinced he's the only survivor in his reality, leading him to make a desperate attempt to leave the planet and return to his own time.

As the episode progresses, each character begins to face their own unique challenges. Kryten, for instance, is forced to confront the possibility that something has gone wrong with his programming - he begins to see visions of a life beyond his programming glitch.

As for Rimmer, he faces his own set of issues; he spends the majority of the episode in a state of anxiety over the possibility of never seeing his friends again.

While the episode is certainly action-packed, with plenty of fight scenes and dramatic moments, it is also one of the most comedic in the series. There are several laugh-out-loud moments, particularly when Cat confronts a group of Psirens who take the form of his ideal female, and when Kryten tries to explain to Rimmer what a "lady garden" is.

Overall, "Psirens" is a strong start to the season and serves as an intriguing introduction to the challenges the characters will face in the upcoming episodes. The episode is well-paced, with plenty of memorable moments, and promises a great deal of excitement in the episodes to come.
