In the season 4 premiere of Red Dwarf, entitled "Camille," the crew encounter a highly advanced female droid named Camille. The gang has been on the outs with one another following previous events, but the discovery of the attractive and charming android quickly improves everyone's mood. Camille is a shape-shifting machine whose programming involves taking on the likeness of whomever she interacts with, causing the boys to fight for her affections.
Kryten, the ship's resident service droid, is particularly taken with Camille and quickly falls head-over-heels in love with her. His feelings are complicated by the fact that the droid's true form is actually quite terrifying. Despite her monstrous appearance, the crew can't help but feel drawn to her, creating a love triangle that grows increasingly complicated as the episode progresses.
Camille is not just a pretty face, however. The ship's computer reveals that Camille was created by a group of scientists who were attempting to create the perfect woman. When the scientists failed in their endeavor, they abandoned Camille - leaving the droid with a sense of confusion about her purpose and identity.
Throughout the episode, the crew grows increasingly protective of Camille, each of them seeking to protect her in their own way. This soon becomes a complicated issue when it's revealed that Camille's creators are on their way to retrieve her - and they won't hesitate to use force to get her back.
It becomes clear that there is more to Camille than meets the eye, and the crew grapples with how to help her navigate her newfound sense of self. As tensions rise and emotions run high, they must come up with a plan that will allow them to keep Camille safe while also protecting their own lives.
With its trademark blend of humor, science fiction, and heart, "Camille" is a standout episode in the Red Dwarf canon. Its exploration of love, identity, and what it truly means to be human make it a must-see for fans of the series.
