In season 2, episode 1 of Recipe Rehab we meet a family who loves their brownies a little too much. The Loaded Brownie recipe they are accustomed to making is a guilty pleasure that's loaded with sugar, butter, and other unhealthy ingredients.
To address this, two chefs come up with a healthy recipe that cuts down on the calories and utilizes healthier alternatives for the indulgent ingredients. The challenge: to make a brownie that tastes just as good as the original.
The chefs go head-to-head in a friendly competition to see who can come up with the best healthy Loaded Brownie recipe. They use ingredients like avocado, Greek yogurt, and black beans to replace the butter and sugar. They also use whole wheat flour and alternative sweeteners like honey and maple syrup to make the brownies more nutritious.
The family tries both recipes and gives their verdict on which one they prefer. They're surprised to find that they can't even tell the difference between the healthy and original versions! The healthier version even comes out on top as the unanimous favorite.
The episode ends with the family thanking the chefs for their delicious, healthy brownies and realizing that they can still indulge in their favorite treats without sacrificing their health. It's a great lesson for anyone who thinks that eating healthy means giving up the foods they love.
