Ep 29. Don't Ask Me / The Secret Life of Grotke
- February 21, 2000
In the first segment, "Don't Ask Me", the kids of Third Street School are struggling with one particular math problem that they cannot solve. With everyone confused and frustrated, the class collectively decides to ask the resident genius Gretchen for help. But when Gretchen refuses to help due to a personal code, everyone becomes increasingly frustrated with her. Meanwhile, Principal Prickly is dealing with his own problem as his beloved pet cat goes missing. With everything in chaos, the kids turn to someone they never expected for help.
In the second segment, "The Secret Life of Grotke", the class is shocked to learn that their usually very quiet and odd teacher, Miss Grotke, has a very impressive and exciting secret life outside of school. With the kids determined to learn more about their enigmatic teacher, they go on a mission to uncover her hidden past. But as they dig deeper, they soon realize that not everything about Miss Grotke's past is all sunshine and rainbows. Meanwhile, T.J. wrestles with the decision of what to do when he inadvertently learns an unsettling secret about Miss Grotke.
As the two segments of the episode unfold, the kids learn some important lessons about the value of personal privacy and the fact that there is always more than meets the eye when it comes to the people in our lives. With heartfelt moments and classic Recess humor, "Don't Ask Me / The Secret Life of Grotke" showcases exactly why this show continues to be a beloved staple of classic 90s animation.
