In "Hi-Def," the fourth episode of Raising Hope's fourth season, the Chance family experiences a technology upgrade when they purchase a new high-definition television. Jimmy and Virginia are thrilled to watch their favorite shows in higher quality, but when Hope accidentally spills juice on the remote control, they find themselves unable to change the channel. Desperate for a solution, Jimmy turns to his tech-savvy cousin Mike for help.
Meanwhile, Burt decides to challenge his new friend, a wealthy businessman named Luke, to a game of miniature golf. Burt is confident in his abilities, having played many rounds of miniature golf in his youth. However, the game quickly becomes more competitive than he anticipated, and Burt becomes convinced that Luke is cheating. Will Burt be able to prove that Luke is taking unfair advantage of their game, or will he be humiliated on the course?
Back at home, Sabrina is dealing with her own technology woes. She is trying to create a viral video for work and enlists the help of Shelley, a social media expert. However, Shelley's tactics for gaining views and likes prove to be more extreme than Sabrina is comfortable with. As she struggles to balance her job with her own values, Sabrina learns an important lesson about staying true to herself.
Throughout the episode, the Chance family grapples with the impact of technology on their lives. While some characters embrace the opportunities presented by new gadgets and social media trends, others are forced to confront the downsides and unintended consequences. As always, Raising Hope manages to blend humor and heart in equal measure as it explores the quirks and challenges of family life.
