Raanjhanaa is a romantic drama movie starring Abhay Deol, Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush. The movie revolves around the life of Kundan, played by Dhanush, who falls in love with Zoya, played by Sonam Kapoor. Kundan is a Hindu boy and Zoya is a Muslim girl, making their love story a complex one.
The movie is set in the holy city of Varanasi and captures the essence of the city beautifully. The movie starts with a young Kundan jumping into the river to impress Zoya, who has recently moved to Varanasi. The two become best friends and Kundan falls in love with her. However, their friendship is tested when Zoya's family moves away after her father is transferred.
Years pass and Kundan still cannot forget Zoya. He becomes obsessed with her and even follows her to Delhi where he learns that Zoya is in love with Akram, played by Abhay Deol. Akram is a student leader and is actively involved in social and political issues. Kundan decides to help Akram win over Zoya's family by pretending to be his friend.
As the story unfolds, we see Kundan trying to come to terms with his feelings for Zoya and the fact that she might never love him back. The movie is a beautiful portrayal of unrequited love and the lengths one can go to win over the person they love.
The movie has some beautiful songs including Tum Tak, Piya Milenge and the title track Raanjhanaa. The music is composed by A. R. Rahman and the lyrics are penned by Irshad Kamil.
Abhay Deol's performance as Akram is commendable. He portrays the character of a passionate young man who is committed to his values and beliefs. Sonam Kapoor looks beautiful as Zoya and her performance is decent. However, it is Dhanush's performance as Kundan that steals the show. He gives a heartwarming performance as a boy who is hopelessly in love and willing to do anything for the person he loves.
Overall, Raanjhanaa is a beautiful love story set in the backdrop of Varanasi. It is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys romantic movies or is a fan of any of the actors in the movie. The movie is available to stream on Eros Now and is definitely worth a watch.
