Teresa Mendoza finds herself on the run from both the DEA and Camila Vargas after surviving an assassination attempt in the premiere episode of Queen of the South. In episode two, "Cuarenta Minutos," Teresa must try to navigate her new life as a fugitive and figure out her next move before it's too late.
The episode begins with Teresa and her new friend Brenda hiding out in a motel room, trying to stay off the grid while Teresa tries to come up with a plan. But their temporary respite is short-lived when a group of thugs break into their room looking for Teresa. In a frantic escape, Teresa and Brenda hop into a car and take off, only to have the car break down on a deserted road.
As the two women hike through the desert, they come across a group of travelers who offer them a ride to the nearest town. But when they get there, the women are betrayed by their hosts and forced to flee again.
Meanwhile, back in Mexico, Camila Vargas is struggling to maintain control of her drug empire in the face of a power struggle with her own husband. When Camila's husband threatens to bring down everything she's worked for, Camila is forced to make a difficult decision that will have far-reaching consequences for everyone involved.
As Teresa continues to evade the DEA and Camila's men, she begins to realize that the only way to truly escape her past is to confront it head-on. With the help of an unexpected ally, Teresa sets out to take control of her own destiny and leave her old life behind for good.
