Shawn Spencer and Burton "Gus" Guster were invited by Lassiter to join a weekend retreat for some police officers who were stationed in Santa Barbara. Together with Juliet O'Hara, they all stay in a military style complex owned by an eccentric former police officer named Vic. The place was supposed to be a place of relaxation and bonding for the cops, but soon after they arrived, tensions began to rise between the cops.
Shawn and Gus were not enjoying their weekend, as they were forced to do push-ups and sing together with the cops. One night, the group divides into two rival teams for a game of capture the flag. Shawn is hiding and eavesdropping on the other team when hearing a crash and someone screaming. Lassiter's team ends up catching Shawn's team's flag. When they are returning to the base, they come across a scene of chaos. They find out that one of the cops who had been acting weird earlier, disappeared, and someone trashed the kitchen. Shawn cannot help but investigate, even though they are out of town and supposed to be relaxing.
As they start to investigate, it becomes clear to Shawn that the officers on the weekend retreat were taking their competition too seriously. Shawn thinks back to a previous investigation when he discovered that those who commit excessive pranks are generally the guiltiest in a murder case. When an officer goes missing, Shawn immediately believes she is the victim of foul play and that her comrades may be involved.
Meanwhile, Gus cannot wait to leave and has made plans to attend a wine-tasting event. Juliet and Lassiter are dealing with drama of their own, and Chief Karen Vick is occupied with some family issues while they are on the retreat. Shawn and Gus continue to unravel the mystery, and a confrontation between them and the culprits sets off a string of dangerous events.
The episode has a lot of action and suspense, and the guest actors all do a fantastic job adding to the tension and comedy of the show. The scenery is gorgeous, with the military-style camp and outdoor areas adding to the atmosphere of the show. The episode perfectly balances the mystery with humor, making it one of the most entertaining episodes of the season. It ends with a satisfying conclusion, wrapping up the mystery while leaving enough room for future storylines. Overall, it is a fantastic episode, and a must-watch for fans of the show.
