As the second season of Prison Break continues, episode three titled "Scan" takes the audience on a suspenseful journey as Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) work towards clearing Lincoln's name.
The episode opens with the brothers searching for evidence to prove Lincoln's innocence. Meanwhile, FBI agent Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner) is hot on their trail and determined to recapture the fugitives. Mahone is relentless in his pursuit and uses all the resources available to track them down.
In an effort to stay one step ahead of Mahone, Michael decides to steal a device that can scan retinas and opens doors with a person's eye print. Michael realizes that Lincoln has an eye condition that may work in their favor. The device is located in a secure company building, so Michael and Lincoln plan a heist to break in and swipe the scanner.
While Michael is focused on trying to obtain the retina scanner, the rest of the escapees are left to their own devices in Sona prison. Tensions in the prison are high, as the prisoners have lost their water supply and are left to fend for themselves. Bellick (Wade Williams), the prison guard from Fox River who has been transferred to Sona, is having a hard time adjusting to his new surroundings and is desperate to find a way out.
Back in the United States, Lincoln's son L.J. (Marshall Allman) is on the run and trying to evade the authorities. L.J. has been framed for a murder he did not commit and is determined to clear his name. With no help from the police, L.J. turns to his mother's ex-husband for help. However, unbeknownst to L.J., his mother's ex-husband has ulterior motives.
As the episode continues, Michael and Lincoln face numerous challenges in their attempt to steal the retina scanner. They must overcome tight security, camera surveillance, and an unexpected guard. Michael's attention to detail and quick thinking help them to narrowly escape, but their success comes at a high cost.
Back at Sona prison, tensions continue to rise as the inmates become more desperate for basic necessities like water. Bellick is convinced that he can find a way out of Sona and sets out to create his escape plan. Meanwhile, Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), who is still reeling from the loss of his love, is struggling to keep his own head above water.
The episode ends with a shocking twist as Michael and Lincoln's heist takes an unexpected turn. As the brothers race to put their plan into action, they soon realize that they are not the only ones interested in the retina scanner. Their escape has left them with a new set of problems to solve as they continue on their journey to clear Lincoln's name and reunite with their loved ones.
