Ep 5. Organ Grinder's Swing
In season 4 episode 5 of Popeye, titled "Organ Grinder's Swing," Popeye and his gang find themselves in a jam when they are tricked by someone who pretends to be a professional organ grinder.
The episode opens up with Popeye and his friends Olive and Wimpy, walking down the street when they hear a loud, catchy tune from what seems like an organ grinder. The tune catches their attention and they start dancing to it. The organ grinder sees them and comes over to offer them a deal: he will play the tune on his organ and they have to dance to it. The group agrees and starts dancing to the tune.
However, just as they start getting into the groove, the organ grinder abruptly stops playing and starts asking for money. The group is surprised and refuses to pay, thinking that the organ grinder was just a friendly street performer. The organ grinder then reveals that he is, in fact, a professional trying to make a living and demands that they pay him for his services.
Popeye, being the kind-hearted hero he is, agrees to pay the organ grinder for his tune. However, things take a turn for the worse when the group finds out that the organ grinder has been scamming them all along. He starts playing the tune again and the group starts dancing once more, but this time, the tune becomes faster and harder to follow. The organ grinder then demands more money from the group and threatens to stop playing if they don't comply.
Popeye and his friends start to realize that they are in trouble and try to get away from the organ grinder. However, the organ grinder is persistent and follows them wherever they go, playing his tune and demanding more money. The group tries to explain their situation to the police, but they are brushed off and told that they should have been careful with their money.
The situation becomes dire when the organ grinder forces Popeye and his friends to perform in front of a large crowd. The group is embarrassed and exhausted from the constant dancing, but they try their best to keep up with the tune. The audience, however, starts to get impatient and starts throwing tomatoes and eggs at them.
Just as things seem like they couldn't get any worse, Popeye's nemesis Bluto enters the scene and starts causing trouble. He starts heckling Popeye and his friends, causing them to lose their focus and their rhythm. The organ grinder takes advantage of the situation and starts demanding more money from the group.
Popeye, being the hero he is, doesn't back down and tries to reason with the organ grinder. He tells him that what he is doing is wrong and that he should stop scamming people. The organ grinder initially dismisses Popeye's advice, but he eventually sees the error of his ways and decides to change his ways.
The episode culminates in a grand finale where Popeye, his friends, and the organ grinder perform the tune together, bringing joy to the crowd. The organ grinder thanks Popeye for helping him see the light and promises to use his talents for good and not for scamming people.
In "Organ Grinder's Swing," Popeye shows that even in the face of adversity and scamming, kindness and reason can prevail. The episode leaves viewers with a sense of hope and the knowledge that even the most difficult problems can be solved with a little perseverance and a lot of heart.
