Police Rescue is an Australian television drama series that focuses on the daily operations of the New South Wales Police Rescue Squad. The show premiered on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on August 10, 1989, and ran for four seasons until 1996. The eighth episode of the first season called "Raid" aired on September 28, 1989.
In the episode "Raid," the Police Rescue Squad is called to assist the Tactical Response Group (TRG) to execute a raid on a house that has been identified as a drug lab. The TRG is a highly-trained unit that specializes in high-risk operations, and their job is to secure the perimeter. The Police Rescue Squad, on the other hand, is responsible for providing support and rescue services during the operation.
The episode begins with the TRG setting up their perimeter around the house. While doing so, they encounter one of the suspects who came out of the house to dispose of some evidence. The suspect tries to flee, but he is quickly apprehended by the TRG. The TRG then waits for the Police Rescue Squad to arrive before making their move on the house.
When the Police Rescue Squad arrives, they set up a staging area and begin preparing their equipment. Before they can do so, however, a civilian car drives through the perimeter and comes to a stop in the driveway of the house. The driver of the car turns out to be the wife of the owner of the house, who is inside with his children. She insists on entering the house to talk to her husband, but the TRG refuses to allow her to do so, citing safety concerns.
As the standoff between the TRG and the woman continues, one of the Police Rescue Squad members, Steve, notices that the woman's car is leaking petrol. He informs the TRG of his discovery, and they quickly evacuate the area around the car. With the woman distracted, the TRG is able to make their move and enter the house.
Inside the house, the TRG discovers that the drug lab is highly unstable and that there is a high risk of explosion. They call in the Police Rescue Squad to assist them in evacuating the children from the house. As the Police Rescue Squad prepares to enter the house, they notice that the woman's car has caught fire due to the petrol leak.
The episode ends with the Police Rescue Squad successfully evacuating the children from the house and extinguishing the fire in the car. The TRG is able to secure the drug lab without incident, and several suspects are arrested.
"Raid" is an action-packed episode that highlights the importance of teamwork and training in high-risk operations. It also showcases the different roles that various police units play in such operations, such as the TRG providing security and the Police Rescue Squad providing support and rescue services. The episode also emphasizes the importance of safety and how even the smallest details can have a significant impact during high-risk operations. Overall, "Raid" is an exciting episode that showcases the daily operations of the New South Wales Police Rescue Squad.
