They initially dismiss it as a UFO sighting, but their curiosity gets the better of them and they investigate further. They eventually discover that the light is coming from a laser beam attached to a scientific research facility nearby. The beam had been accidentally activated and was reflecting off the clouds, causing the unusual light in the sky.
