Ash and his friends arrive at an island where they come across a group of Pidgey and Pidgeotto that were just finishing their migration. As they release some of their Pokémon to stretch their legs, Ash's Taillow meets a female Swellow. The two birds instantly bond, much to the delight of everyone present. However, their happiness is short-lived as Team Rocket arrives on the scene. The villains have a new invention that could help them catch multiple Pokémon at once but, once again, their plans go awry as the device malfunctions and causes an explosion.

After the dust settles, Ash and the gang discover that Taillow and Swellow have disappeared. They soon find the two birds in a nearby forest, where they've built a nest and started a family. Not wanting to disturb them, Ash and his friends decide to leave them alone. However, things take a turn when a group of Sharpedo attack the nest, putting the young birds in danger. The gang jumps into action and, with the help of Taillow and Swellow, they manage to fend off the Sharpedo and save the day.

As a thank you, Taillow and Swellow present Ash with a feather as a token of their friendship. The group then says their goodbyes and continues their journey, leaving the two lovebirds to start their new life together.
