Ash, May, Brock and Max head towards a new adventure in Johto region. They reach a forest where they are impressed by a beautiful garden. They soon find out that the garden belongs to a Pokémon trainer named Nicole, who is busy watering her plants. As they watch from behind the bushes, a boy named Harley arrives. He is Nicole's rival and is there to challenge her in a Pokémon battle. They both choose their Pokémon and the battle begins. After a fierce fight between the two, Nicole wins.

Harley does not take the defeat well, and he tells Nicole that he will be back to challenge her again. After Harley leaves, the gang approaches Nicole to talk to her about her garden. Max is especially impressed by it and starts asking Nicole questions about her plants. As she starts to explain to Max, she reveals that she is a Pokémon Coordinator. She shows them her ribbon collection, which she has won in different contests.

Ash and his friends do not know what a Pokémon Coordinator is, so Nicole explains that Pokémon Coordinators are trainers who compete in contests with their Pokémon. The contests have different categories and judges, and the aim is to show off the beauty and abilities of the Pokémon. The group is intrigued by the idea and decide to stay and watch the next contest.

The day of the contest arrives, and Ash and his friends are amazed by the beautiful performances put on by the Coordinators and their Pokémon. They are especially excited when they see Nicole and Harley competing. Nicole's performance is stunning, and she easily advances to the next round. Harley, on the other hand, puts on a dramatic performance, which borders on inappropriate. Despite this, the judges allow him to move on to the next round, much to the chagrin of the others.

After the contest, the gang meets up with Nicole and congratulates her on her win. She explains that for the next round, she needs to use a new type of Pokémon. As they are talking, they notice a seed falling from a tree. Max picks it up and asks Nicole about it. She tells him that it is a Wailmer Pail, which is used to water plants. Max is fascinated by the idea of using different types of tools to help Pokémon grow and asks if he can help. Nicole agrees, and Max starts to help her plant new seeds.

As they work, Ash and the others see a group of Seedot. They look adorable, but as soon as they start to approach them, the Seedot run away. Soon, they meet up with a little girl named Natalie, who tells them that the Seedot belong to her. Natalie explains that the Seedot are scared of people and Pokémon, and she has been trying to get them to trust her. Max comes up with an idea to help Natalie, and the group starts to plant new trees that the Seedot can live in.

As they work on the project, Harley shows up and starts to sabotage their work. Nicole confronts him, and he reveals that he has been using dirty tactics to win contests. He also reveals that he has a grudge against Nicole because she has always beaten him in contests. The group is shocked, but they decide to fight back, and they come up with a plan to stop Harley from hurting the Seedot.

The day of the contest arrives, and Harley puts on an extravagant performance that almost causes a disaster. Meanwhile, Nicole puts on a serene and beautiful performance with her new Pokémon, using the Wailmer Pail and other new tools she had learned about to set up a beautiful garden.

In the end, Nicole wins the contest, but she also receives the respect of Harley, who admits that he has been wrong all along. The Seedot also come out of hiding and start to play with Natalie, showing that they have learned to trust people and Pokémon a little more. The episode ends with Ash and his friends waving goodbye to Nicole and her new friends as they embark on their next adventure.
