Ash and friends have finally arrived at the Fallarbor Town and are thrilled to see the town's unique Nosepass-shaped rock formations. Ash eagerly enters the upcoming Pokémon Contest in the town, hoping to win his second contest ribbon. However, in order to compete, he must first pass the preliminary round. The rules of the preliminary round dictate that only three Pokémon can be used, and Ash is lucky to have so many to choose from.
May also decides to participate in the contest, hoping to win her first ribbon. Drew, her romantic and competitive rival from an earlier contest, is present and ready to compete too. Brock, on the other hand, decides to take a break from the contest and goes off to explore the town.
The preliminary round starts, and Ash, May, and Drew breeze through it with relative ease, but with a few challenges along the way. With a lot of determination, the three of them qualify for the main event. With the vast array of skilled competitors present, it's not going to be an easy task to take home the much-coveted prize.
As the main event commences, Ash faces many challenges along the way, with each opponent bring something different to the table. The match between Ash and Drew is, however, the main event of the episode, as they go back and forth for the lead. There are many tense moments as both trainers use their skills to outdo one another.
During the match, Ash's Swellow goes up against Drew's Masquerain, and a high-stakes battle ensues. As the battle intensifies, both trainers use various techniques, with neither of them able to claim the lead. The climax to the match sees Ash bring in his final Pokémon, Snorunt, to face off against Drew's Flygon. With the thoughts of everything he has learned since Zangoose, Ash is able to pull off a startlingly effective move, and Snorunt proves to be the victor.
The scene shifts back to May, who is also competing in the contest. She has made it to the final round, facing off against Elijah and his Nosepass. Ninetales takes on Nosepass, and the competitors battle it out. Elijah and Nosepass appear to be ahead for most of the match, but May's quick thinking and use of tactics change everything, and she pulls ahead in the final moments.
In the end, May is the victor of the Pokémon Contest, the first win of her career. She is ecstatic and overjoyed, having put in so much hard work and dedication. Ash, on the other hand, is thrilled for May but feels bittersweet at the same time. Despite his eventual defeat to Drew, Ash knows in his heart that he has done the best he could and that both he and Snorunt have grown in strength and ability since the last contest he participated in.
As the episode ends, Ash and May congratulate each other. They both know the other has pushed themselves to the limit and respect their each other's strength. Drew also congratulates both Ash and May, acknowledging their hard work and successful performances. With the Fallarbor Town Contest over, our heroes continue their journey, with many new adventures and battles waiting for them down the road.
