Ash and his friends continue their journey towards the Johto region. They stumble upon a mountainous area where they see a flock of beautiful Butterfree flying in the sky. Ash and his friends soon learn about a forest home to many rare Bug-type Pokemon, where these Butterfree lives. While exploring the forest, they come across a group of Caterpie struggling to get up into the trees. Ash and Pikachu help the Caterpie by using teamwork to create a bridge using vines to make it easier for them to climb up into the trees.
The group then continues their journey through the forest and stumbles upon a competition between two trainers - one with a Beautifly and the other with a Dustox. Ash and his friends are fascinated by the competition and decide to watch. During the competition, they notice the Dustox is having difficulty flying and crashes to the ground. The trainer becomes very worried and upset and they reveal to the group that their Dustox has not been feeling well lately.
Ash and his friends suggest finding some herbs in the forest to help the Dustox get better. Ash and Pikachu begin their search, and while looking for the herbs, they see a group of Yanma flying. Yanma are agile Bug-type Pokemon that can fly, and Ash and Pikachu are impressed by their speed. They also notice that one of the Yanma has an injured wing.
They take the injured Yanma back to the trainers and tell them what happened. The trainers are kind-hearted and offer to help the Yanma to get better. When they learn that the Yanma cannot fly back to their home, they decide to take them there. One of the trainers suggests using Beautifly and its Gust attack to help the Yanma fly, but they need a special herb to make it work.
Ash and his friends find the herb and bring it back to the trainers. They feed it to the Yanma, and it works! The Yanma can fly again. Ash and his friends then help the trainers use Beautifly's Gust to give the Yanma the lift they need to get back to their home. It's a touching moment as the Yanma reaches their home and their Yanma friends fly out to meet them. The group watches as the Yanma all fly away together in unity.
As the sun sets, Ash and his friends say goodbye to the trainers and continue their journey. They reflect on the importance of friendship, teamwork and helping others. The episode ends with an exciting preview of Ash and his friends' adventures to come.
