Ash, Misty and Brock take a break from their travels to visit a nearby Pokémon Center. While resting, they become aware of a group of trainers boasting about the incredible firepower of their Pokémon, including a wondrous armored tank. Brock is immediately intrigued and asks to see the tank in person, but the trainers are hesitant to let outsiders see their prized possession.
The group soon learns that the trainers are holding a tournament to see who has the strongest Pokémon, and Brock convinces them to let him and his friends enter. Their first opponent is a team with a Blastoise and a Rhydon; Ash uses Pikachu to take on Blastoise, while Misty uses Staryu to face Rhydon. Despite a tough battle, the trio emerges victorious.
Next, they face a trainer with a Machamp and a Golem. Ash and Pikachu take on Machamp, while Brock uses Geodude to challenge Golem. Once again, the group is victorious, but they quickly realize that the opposing trainers have an unfair advantage: they have been using performance-enhancing drugs on their Pokémon to give them a competitive edge.
The group is disheartened, but they refuse to give up. They enter the final round of the tournament, where they face off against the tank-trainers themselves. The tank turns out to be a modified Lapras with a giant metal shell and advanced weaponry. Ash and Pikachu attempt to take on the tank with electric attacks, but their efforts are futile.
It's up to Brock to come up with a strategy to take down the tank. He realizes that the tank's shell is the key to its strength, and he hatches a plan to attack the shell from above. He uses Geodude to launch himself into the air and land on top of the tank, where he begins to pound away at the shell. The tank's trainers are caught off guard and fail to counter Brock's attack.
The battle is intense, but Brock's quick thinking proves to be the deciding factor. They defeat the tank and win the tournament, earning the respect of the other trainers in the process. The trio continues on their journey, filled with new knowledge and stronger bonds with their Pokémon.
