Ash, Misty, and Brock are travelling through the Johto region when they come across a hapless Chikorita who is being harassed by a group of Sparrow. The group quickly jumps to the rescue and drive off the Sparrow. Ash and his friends quickly discover that the Chikorita is wild and it refuses to be captured by Ash, who has been trying to capture every Pokemon he comes across.
Chikorita may be a wild Pokemon, but it quickly becomes clear that it is in need of help. It is malnourished and in serious need of medical attention. Ash and his friends quickly realize that they need to find a way to help Chikorita before it is too late.
Ash and his friends soon discover that Chikorita had been separated from its mother, a Meganium, and has been lonely and lost in the forest. Ash and his friends determine to set out on a quest to find the missing Meganium and reunite mother and child.
The journey is fraught with danger as the group must navigate through the forest, avoiding prying eyes and dangerous Pokemon. They soon find themselves in the midst of a battle between Team Rocket and a group of wild Hoppip and Skiploom. Ash and his friends quickly join the fight, determined to help the wild Pokemon fend off their attackers.
As the battle rages on, Chikorita manages to catch Team Rocket off-guard and send them blasting off. The group eventually makes it to Meganium and they successfully reunite mother and child. The group returns to Meganium's tranquil home in the forest where Chikorita finally gets the nourishment and care it needs to get back on its feet.
As Chikorita makes a full recovery, Ash and his friends prepare to continue their journey through the Johto region. They leave Meganium and her family and set out on their next adventure, but not before bidding a fond farewell to Chikorita.
Chikorita may have been a wild Pokemon, but Ash and his friends were able to help it when it needed it most. They were able to reunite it with its mother and provide it with the care and nutrition it needed to get back on its feet. The group may have been on a mission to capture Pokemon, but they quickly learned that sometimes the best thing to do is to help a Pokemon in need.
