Ep 24. A Friend in Deed
In this episode of Pokemon season 2, titled "A Friend in Deed", Ash and his friends arrive at a new town and come across a Pokemon Center that is in disarray. They soon discover that the Nurse Joy who usually works there is away on vacation and left her inexperienced little sister in charge. The little sister is having a hard time managing the center and caring for all of the Pokemon, causing chaos to ensue. While they are working, Ash and Pikachu come across a lonely, abandoned Charmander. Pikachu is hesitant to befriend it, as Charmanders are typically seen as Pikachu's natural enemy. However, Ash sees the potential in the Charmander and decides to take it under his wing, so to speak. The Charmander, who is grateful for the attention, quickly bonds with Ash and Pikachu, and they become fast friends.
As they continue to help out at the Pokemon Center, they come across a group of trainers who are on the hunt for rare Pokemon. Ash and his friends soon realize that these trainers are not interested in catching and training the Pokemon they find, but rather selling them for profit. This angers Ash, who believes that Pokemon should be treated with respect and not used for financial gain.
The situation comes to a head when the trainers attempt to capture Pikachu and Charmander. Ash and his friends must work together to protect their beloved Pokemon, and they ultimately prevail. The trainers are chased out of town, and Ash and his friends are celebrated as heroes for their bravery and dedication to Pokemon welfare.
Throughout the episode, there are several lessons in the importance of friendship and treating others with respect. Ash and Pikachu demonstrate that even natural enemies can become close friends if given the chance, and they stand up for what they believe in, even in the face of danger.
