Ash and his friends arrive in Nacrene City and visit its museum which is said to have a living exhibition. The museum's curator, Hawes, gives the group a tour during which they encounter a mysterious Pokémon. Later that night, Ash and his friends decide to camp out in the museum courtyard but soon discover that the Pokémon they had seen earlier is causing havoc in the museum.
The group decides to investigate and encounters the museum's security guard, who is also Hawes' son. They team up with him to catch the mischievous Pokémon and put an end to its vandalism. Throughout their search, they encounter several other Pokémon including a sleeping Darumaka, an angry Scolipede, and a playful Klink.
As they catch up with the mischievous Pokémon, they discover that it is actually a Foongus. The Foongus is revealed to have been looking for a specific object in the museum, which it eventually finds. The object turns out to be a gateway to a hidden room that contains many rare and valuable items.
The group decides to explore the room and discovers several fascinating artifacts, including ancient fossils and an old diary. They also find a hidden message that leads them to a secret treasure. However, they are interrupted by Team Rocket, who has arrived in Nacrene City to steal the valuable artifacts.
Ash and his friends team up with the curator and security guard to stop Team Rocket from stealing the artifacts. In a battle between Pikachu, Snivy, and Tepig, and Team Rocket's Pokémon, Ash and his friends emerge victorious. The group then retrieves the stolen artifacts and safely returns them to the museum.
In the end, the group discovers that the Foongus was actually looking for the hidden room to find a gift for its friend. The group decides to help the Foongus by giving it a flower that it presents to its friend, a hidden sleeping Musharna.
The episode ends on a peaceful note with Ash and his friends deciding to move forward in their journey as they bid farewell to Hawes and his son.
