Ep 14. Pursuing a Lofty Goal!
- TV-Y7
Ash and his friends arrive in the city of Hearthome, where they hope to compete in the city's annual Pokémon Contest. Determined to win the contest, Dawn decides to train with her newly-evolved Piplup, but soon finds out that her training methods are not very effective. Meanwhile, Ash and Brock pay a visit to the city's Gym Leader, Fantina, to ask for a battle.
After discovering that Fantina is also a top-ranked Pokémon Contest participant, Ash decides to train both for the gym battle and for the Contest. He encounters a group of flying-type Pokémon and their leader, Staraptor, who offers to help Ash train. Together, Ash and Staraptor train vigorously, with Staraptor pushing Ash to his limits.
Meanwhile, Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket have infiltrated the city and are determined to steal everyone's Pokémon. They hatch a plan to capture all the flying-type Pokémon they can find and use them to take over the city. However, their plan is foiled by Ash and his friends, who swoop in and save the day.
Back at the Gym, Ash and Fantina finally face off in a heated battle. Fantina's ghost-type Pokémon prove to be a tough challenge for Ash, but Staraptor's newly-learned flying-type moves prove to be the key to victory. In the end, Ash triumphs over Fantina and earns his fifth Sinnoh Gym Badge.
With the Gym battle over, Ash and his friends turn their focus back to the Pokémon Contest. Dawn's training pays off, and she wins her Contest debut with an impressive performance. Excited for her upcoming Contest challenges, Dawn begins to dream of one day becoming a top-ranked Pokémon Coordinator.
The episode ends with Ash and his friends bidding farewell to Hearthome City, eager to continue their journey through the Sinnoh region.
