Ash and his companions arrive in Sunyshore City, preparing for Ash’s next Gym challenge. As they explore the city, they cannot help but notice a familiar face - Paul, the rival Trainer who has clashed with Ash in the past. Despite Paul’s provocation, Ash remains determined to prove him wrong. However, things take an unexpected turn when they discover that Paul has managed to capture a legendary Pokémon, Azelf. This creates a stir among the locals who consider the legendary Pokémon to be a guardian of the region. Ash is shocked but not deterred, and he decides to take on Paul in a Gym battle. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is also in Sunyshore, hatching their own plans to capture Azelf and add it to their collection. As the Gym battle approaches, Ash and his team train hard to prepare for the challenge. They also learn more about Paul’s training methods, which involve an intense focus on winning at all costs - even at the expense of the Pokémon’s health and well-being.
