Ash and friends reach a town where a Pokemon matchmaker named Auntie and her granddaughter, Emily, live. Auntie has made countless perfect matches between Pokemon and trainers, and the group is excited to meet her. However, upon their arrival, they find out that Auntie is retiring and Emily will be taking her place. Emily is nervous and unsure if she can live up to her grandmother's reputation.
Ash decides to have Auntie help him find a match for his Heracross. However, after several unsuccessful attempts, Auntie tells Ash that his Heracross is already in a perfect match with him. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has disguised themselves as the owners of a nearby Pokemon breeding center and are using it to steal Pokemon.
Emily reveals that she has a passion for cooking, and Ash suggests that she combine her cooking skills with her love for Pokemon to create a special dish that will attract the perfect match between a trainer and a Pokemon. Together, they experiment with different recipes, but nothing seems to work.
As the group prepares to leave the town, Team Rocket's scheme is uncovered, and a battle ensues. During the battle, Emily and Auntie's Snubbull team up to defeat Team Rocket's Pokemon. Emily realizes that the bond between a trainer and their Pokemon is what determines a perfect match, not just their physical attributes.
Feeling inspired, Emily creates a special dish that represents the bond between a trainer and their Pokemon, and it works perfectly. Her first client is a young girl who has been searching for a Pokemon that will match her quiet and gentle nature. Emily pairs her with a Swablu, and the two instantly connect.
The group says goodbye to Auntie and Emily, both of whom are now confident in Emily's abilities as a matchmaker. As they continue on their journey, Ash and his friends reflect on the importance of the relationship between a trainer and their Pokemon, and how it ultimately determines the perfect match.
