Ash and his friends reach a new city and head straight to the gym to challenge the local gym leader. However, they find out that the gym leader is a famous musician named Pete Pebbleman, who states that he will only battle someone who can impress him with their own musical talents. Ash and his friends quickly realize that they need to learn music if they want to challenge the gym leader.
With the help of a local music teacher, they start practicing and composing their own song. Team Rocket also tries to impress Pete Pebbleman with their own music but end up failing miserably. Meanwhile, Ash and his friends struggle to come up with something unique and original for their performance.
On the day of the competition, Ash and his friends perform their song, but they are ultimately rejected by Pete Pebbleman for not being original enough. The disappointment hits hard, but Ash decides to keep trying and practicing until they come up with a song that is truly unique and represents them.
Eventually, they come up with a new song and challenge Pete Pebbleman again. This time, their performance blows the gym leader away and they earn their place in a battle with him. As the battle proceeds, Ash and his friends discover that Pete Pebbleman's pokemon have musical abilities, which they use in battle to confuse their opponents.
With quick thinking and a bit of luck, Ash and his friends manage to defeat Pete Pebbleman and earn their fifth Johto Gym badge. As they leave the city, Ash and co. realize that music is an integral part of the pokemon world, and they vow to continue improving their musical skills.
