In Pokemon the Series season 5 episode 32, titled "Hocus Pok?mon," Ash, Misty, and Brock arrive in a small town to find that a magician, known as the Great Hokus, is causing trouble with his Pok?mon magic show. This causes problems for the town's local gym leader, because Hokus' magic tricks have frightened his gym's Pok?mon. The gym leader seems to have lost his confidence and cannot work up the courage to face the magician in a battle.

When the group finds Hokus, they learn that he's not a bad person, but he has been coerced by Team Rocket. Team Rocket has taken Hokus' beloved Meowth and is holding the Pok?mon hostage to make him perform tricks that are harmful to others. Ash and his friends decide to help Hokus and head to Team Rocket's base to rescue Meowth.

As they make their way to Team Rocket's base, they meet a mysterious girl called Duplica, who can transform into any Pok?mon. Duplica joins the group to help them plan a successful rescue mission. With Duplica's ability to transform into a fighting Pok?mon, they manage to infiltrate Team Rocket's base undetected and rescue Meowth.

Once Meowth is safe, Hokus thanks Ash and his friends for their help and prepares to face the gym leader. The gym leader, inspired by Hokus bravery, faces him in a battle and even manages to win. The episode ends with Ash and his friends saying their goodbyes to Duplica and Hokus and heading to the next town.
