Pokemon the Series Season 4 Episode 36

Ep 36. Sick Daze

  • April 12, 2001

In the episode “Sick Daze,” we follow Ash and his friends as they arrive in a town where a mysterious illness is spreading. In the opening scenes, we see several Pokemon trainers and their Pokemon falling sick one by one. The group decides to explore and get to the root of the problem.

They find out that the reason behind the illness is the presence of an unusual kind of mist that had appeared in the town. It turns out that there is a malfunction in the air conditioning system’s air filter that is causing the mist. This mist triggers a severe reaction in the Pokemon, causing them to fall sick immediately. The mist is identified as a potent virus that can have severe long-term effects on the Pokemon and cause serious damage.

As Ash and the gang try to figure out how to stop the spread of the virus, they themselves begin to feel the onset of the strange illness. We see Ash, May, and Brock battling through fever, chills, and fatigue as they soldier on in their mission. They notice that Pikachu is struggling a lot more than the others; as an electrified Pokemon, the virus has had a severe effect on him.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket is in the same town. They plan to steal the Pokemon that have been weakened by the virus. But just like Ash and his friends, Jessie, James, and Meowth also fall sick due to the virus and are bedridden. Unlike Ash and the gang, however, they are part of the problem and have no intention of finding a cure.

Ash's group meets a veteran Pokemon trainer who happens to be an expert on Pokemon related illness and viruses. This trainer informs them of an ancient medicinal herb that can cure the virus. The only problem is that this herb is found in the deeper parts of the forest, and no one has ever ventured deep enough to find it.

With no other option, Ash and the group decide to head into the forest to find the herb. They are surprised to find a powerful Pokemon that has been protecting those herbs for centuries. The Pokemon initially resists their attempts to take the herbs, causing Ash and his friends to engage in a battle that is not only physically challenging but mentally as well.

Despite being infected and weakened by the virus, Ash rallies his team, and they put up a fierce fight with the wild Pokemon. We hear Ash, May, and Brock struggle with coughs and sneezes during the battle, each time trying to catch their breath before the next attack. Pikachu, who is still grappling with the virus, was barely able to use his electric attacks during the fight, yet he put everything into the fight.

The wild Pokemon picks up on the determination and the passion of Ash and ultimately collides with Ash's Pokemon, exchanging a massive attack that leaves the Pokemon exhausted. Initially, the wild Pokemon considers refuting their request to take the herb, but it recognizes the determination and grit shown by the trainers.

Finally, they obtain the herbs and return to the town to help the affected Pokemon. Using the herbal medication, Ash and his friends help heal not only the weakened Pokemon, but they managed to heal themselves as well.

In the end, Team Rocket tries to steal the cured Pokémon, but Ash and his friends are alert and fully restored, so they put up a fight and ultimately succeed in stopping them. Therefore, the episode ends with Ash and friends returning the now healthy, recovered Pokemon to their respective trainers and saying their goodbyes to the town as they move on to their next adventure.
