Ash and his friends arrive in a new town where they learn about an annual Gust Cup tournament. The tournament involves flying on a Pokémon's back through a windy canyon, which requires skill and teamwork. Ash and his friends watch the tournament and meet a young girl named Tamao who dreams of winning the Gust Cup.
As the tournament begins, Ash and his friends are impressed with the skill and precision of the trainers and their Pokémon. One trainer in particular catches their attention: a girl named Sumomo who is participating with her Dodrio. Sumomo is confident and skilled, and it quickly becomes apparent that she is a top contender for the tournament.
As the race progresses, however, a strong gust of wind knocks Sumomo off course and she is separated from her Dodrio. Ash and his friends offer to help her find her Pokémon, but they are hindered by the unpredictable winds and rough terrain. As they search, they learn more about Sumomo and her dedication to caring for her Pokémon.
Meanwhile, Tamao struggles to find a partner for the Gust Cup and is repeatedly turned down by other trainers. She is determined to compete, however, and decides to train her Pidgey to become a skilled flyer. With the help of Ash and his friends, Tamao improves her flying skills and gains confidence.
As night falls, Sumomo and her Dodrio are still missing, and the search party begins to lose hope. Just as they are about to give up, they spot a light in the distance. Following the light, they find Sumomo and her Pokémon safe and sound. Sumomo thanks the group for their help and reveals that she knows Ash from a previous encounter.
The next day, it is time for the final round of the Gust Cup tournament. Sumomo and her Dodrio compete against the other top teams, including Tamao and her Pidgey. The race is intense and unpredictable, with strong winds and sudden obstacles. In the end, one team emerges victorious, but all the competitors have given it their all.
As the group says goodbye to Sumomo and the town, Tamao expresses her gratitude for their help and friendship. Ash and his friends continue their journey, eager for their next adventure.
