Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon is the latest iteration of the popular Pokémon franchise. Airing on ITV, this series follows the adventures of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as they explore the Alola region, a tropical paradise filled with new Pokémon and obstacles to overcome.

From the outset, viewers will notice a significant shift in the overall tone of the show. Gone are the traditional gym battles and tournaments, replaced by a more freeform approach to storytelling. Rather than focusing on one specific goal, Ash spends his time exploring the various islands that make up Alola, meeting new friends, and encountering challenges that test his skills and determination.

One of the most notable aspects of Sun & Moon is its aesthetic. The Alola region is a colorful and vibrant place, with each island boasting its unique environment and inhabitants. From the lush jungles of Melemele Island to the rocky terrain of Akala Island, there is always something new to discover.

As Ash travels through Alola, he meets a host of new characters, both human and Pokémon alike. One of his primary allies is Professor Kukui, a knowledgeable and charismatic researcher who guides Ash through his trials and introduces him to the region’s unique customs and traditions. Another important figure is Lillie, a timid young girl with a tragic past who gradually overcomes her fears and becomes a valuable member of Ash’s team.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Pokémon without battles, and Sun & Moon delivers in spades. While the traditional gym battles may be absent, the series replaces them with its version of “trials.” Each island has a unique trial that Ash must complete, culminating in a battle against a powerful Totem Pokémon. These trials can range from solving puzzles to battling hordes of Pokémon, providing a refreshing change of pace from the usual formula.

The battles themselves are also worth mentioning. Sun & Moon takes a more fluid and dynamic approach to its fight scenes, with characters performing acrobatic maneuvers and pulling off flashy moves that add excitement and spectacle to each encounter. Fans of the original series might be taken aback by the new aesthetic, but it’s hard to deny how visually impressive the battles are.

Beyond the battles and exploration, Sun & Moon also explores more character-driven storylines. Ash’s new companions, including Rotom Dex, a sassy Pokédex with a mind of its own, and Sophocles, a timid inventor with a talent for engineering, all have their unique arcs and moments to shine.

And, of course, there are the Pokémon themselves. Sun & Moon introduces dozens of new Pokémon, most of which have a unique design and personality. The show’s writers make sure to give each Pokémon a chance to showcase its abilities and quirks, adding depth to the already rich lore of the franchise.

One of the most impressive aspects of Sun & Moon is how it handles its humor. While Pokémon has always had amusing moments, this series leans heavily into its comedic side, with each episode packed with witty one-liners and amusing sight gags. It’s a testament to the show’s writing and direction that the humor never feels forced or out of place, blending seamlessly with the show’s overall tone.

All in all, Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon is a compelling and entertaining addition to the Pokémon franchise. It may not be what fans are used to, but it’s hard to argue with its infectious charm and dazzling presentation. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to the series, there’s plenty to love about this latest evolution of the Pokémon universe.
