He rescues Hina from a group of robbers, and they both become travelers. Hina is looking for the Abyss, while Licht is searching for something known as the 'Ballot.' The Ballot is a mysterious object with immense power that can change the course of history.

As the story progresses, Hina and Licht encounter several other characters, each with their own unique set of skills and motivations. Among them are Jail Murdoch, the leader of the police force and a former soldier who lost his family in the Great War. He has a score to settle with Licht and will stop at nothing to capture him, even if it means putting Hina's life in danger.
