Pingu and the Organ Grinder / Pingu and his Friends Play Too Loudly is the twelfth episode of the first season of Pingu, a popular Swiss-British stop-motion animated children's television series. The episode first aired on 10 February 1987 and has since become a beloved classic amongst children and adults alike.
The first part of the episode, Pingu and the Organ Grinder, sees Pingu the penguin and his younger sister Pinga excitedly listening to the melodious sounds of a colorful organ grinder who has arrived in town. Wearing a brightly-colored costume and sporting a cheerful expression, the organ grinder proceeds to play his charming tunes for an appreciative crowd. Pingu is entranced by the music and follows the organ grinder wherever he goes, delighting in the various musical instruments the organ grinder brings out and the animated circus performers that accompany him.
As the day wears on and the crowds begin to dwindle, the organ grinder decides to take a break and rest his feet. Pingu, ever curious, decides to explore the organ grinder's musical contraptions and decides to try his hand at playing them himself. However, as he fumbles with the instruments, Pingu accidentally causes a commotion, sending the organ grinder's monkey scurrying away with a valuable instrument. Pingu soon realizes the mistake he has made and sets off to find the monkey, determined to make things right.
The second part of the episode, Pingu and his Friends Play Too Loudly, centers on Pingu and his group of rowdy friends, who are enjoying a lazy afternoon playing their favorite game of hopscotch. However, their game is abruptly interrupted by a group of elderly penguins who are trying to have a peaceful nap. Ignoring the older penguins' pleas for quiet, Pingu and his gang continue to play, growing louder and rowdier by the minute.
As tensions rise and the situation grows increasingly heated, Pingu's father steps in and scolds the group, imploring them to show more consideration for their neighbors. Pingu is initially sullen and uncooperative, but soon realizes the error of his ways and sets out to make amends. However, when the opportunity arises for him and his friends to make noise in a seemingly abandoned building, Pingu is once again tempted to turn up the volume and play as loudly as they want.
In the end, Pingu's father and the other penguin parents manage to convince the children to tone down the volume and be more respectful towards their neighbors. The episode ends on a happy note, with Pingu and his friends playing a quieter game of hopscotch and enjoying each other's company in a more considerate manner.
Overall, Pingu and the Organ Grinder / Pingu and his Friends Play Too Loudly is an endearing and enjoyable installment in the beloved children's series. With its engaging storylines, charming characters, and colorful animation, it is easy to see why Pingu has become such a well-loved classic amongst generations of viewers.
