In Person of Interest season 3 episode 1, titled "Liberty," the show picks up where it left off with the previous season finale. Following the bombing of an underground hacker group's lair, the Machine has gone offline and Finch is nowhere to be found. John Reese, who has been on a mission to stop the people behind the attack, is left with a non-functioning earpiece and a detective determined to bring him in for questioning.
After a thrilling and action-packed opening sequence, Reese sets out to track down Finch. His search leads him to a park, where he meets up with Grace, Finch's long-lost love from many years ago. As they catch up, Grace reveals that she may have a lead on where Finch could be.
Meanwhile, flashbacks reveal Finch's early days working on the Machine, and how his interactions with Nathan Ingram, his former business partner, ultimately led to the development of the program. In the present day, Finch finds himself trapped in a government facility, where he is being interrogated by a ruthless agent named Shaw.
As Reese and Shaw make their way to the facility, Finch desperately tries to piece together a way to escape. With the help of a fellow captive, he is eventually able to break free and make a run for it. However, as he and Reese reunite, they are confronted by a group of armed men who seem determined to kill them both.
As the episode comes to a close, it becomes clear that the Machine is back online, and that Reese and Finch will continue to fight to protect the people of New York from those who seek to do them harm.
Overall, "Liberty" is a thrilling and action-packed episode that sets the stage for an exciting new season of Person of Interest. With intriguing new characters and shocking plot twists, fans of the show will definitely not want to miss this one.
