In Perry Mason season 1 episode 19, entitled "The Case of the Haunted Husband," we see the always-intrepid Perry Mason take on yet another challenging case. This time, we find him representing a woman named Evelyn Bagby, who is accused of murdering her own husband, Harold.
As the episode opens, we learn that Harold Bagby had inherited a considerable amount of wealth from his father, after the latter's untimely death. The Bagbys resided in a large and spacious mansion, which was home to both the couple, as well as their many servants.
The trouble began when Harold suddenly died, and Evelyn was found standing over his lifeless body with a wrench in hand. The police quickly arrived on the scene, and Evelyn was taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
But as Perry soon discovers, Evelyn's case is more complicated than it seems at first glance. Not only is there a web of deceit and betrayal surrounding her husband's death, but the Bagby mansion itself is rumored to be cursed.
According to local legend, anyone who took possession of the mansion would be cursed to suffer some terrible fate. And it seems that this may have, in fact, come to pass for Harold Bagby.
As Perry delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a tangled web of secrets and lies. He comes to know that a good number of people had a motive to see Harold dead, including the physician who had signed off on his death certificate, the family's longtime lawyer, and even the couple's own housemaid.
Despite the many twists and turns in this case, Perry is determined to uncover the truth and prove Evelyn's innocence. With the help of his trusted allies, including his ever-faithful secretary Della Street and investigator Paul Drake, Perry sets out to unravel the mystery of Harold Bagby's death.
As the case progresses, Perry discovers that he will have to use all his legal prowess and intuition to outmaneuver the prosecution and clear Evelyn's name. Along the way, he will face numerous challenges and obstacles, including the haunted mansion itself.
But Perry Mason is nothing if not fearless, and he is determined to see justice served. Will he be able to uncover the truth before it's too late? Tune in to "The Case of the Haunted Husband" to find out!
