Ep 4. Teller Gets Smashed
- January 29, 2021
Penn & Teller: Fool Us season 8 episode 4, titled “Teller Gets Smashed”, is another exciting episode of the long-running show. This episode features some of the best illusionists in the world gathering together to perform their most awe-inspiring and mind-blowing tricks in front of the iconic duo, Penn & Teller.
The premise of the show is simple: each magician has to perform a trick that Penn & Teller cannot replicate. The duo then offer their opinion on how the trick was performed, with the magician either confirming or denying their theories. If the magician is successful in fooling Penn & Teller, they win a chance to perform alongside the legendary pair at their residency in Las Vegas.
In this episode, Teller, the normally silent half of Penn & Teller, takes center stage as he plays a crucial role in each of the featured tricks. From smashing watermelons to disappearing acts, the episode promises to be an entertaining ride through the world of magic and illusion.
The first magician to take on the challenge is Eric Jones, who has already appeared on the show twice before. Eric’s trick involves a deck of cards and manipulating them using a glass bottle. Teller’s involvement in the trick comes into play towards the end and leaves Penn & Teller completely stumped.
Next up is Brian Brushwood, who has built a cult following for his online shows, particularly his Scam School series on YouTube. Brushwood’s trick involves a few smashed watermelons and quite a bit of suspense. While Penn is skeptical of the trick, Teller is fascinated and tries to determine the mechanics behind it.
Magician Siegfried Tieber is also on stage with his twin brother, Lars. Their routine is based on a game of chess, with one of the brothers playing against an audience member. Again, Teller plays a crucial role in the trick’s success, and Penn & Teller are impressed by the cleverness and ingenuity behind the illusion.
One of the highlights of the episode comes from Garrett Thomas, who Penn & Teller nickname the “poet of magic”. Thomas’ trick is based around playing cards and illusions of the mind. The trick is so remarkable that Teller even appears to be in disbelief. Penn describes the trick as the best they have seen in eight seasons of the show.
The final performer is Magus Utopia, a group from the Netherlands known for their visually stunning illusions. Their trick is a journey to another world, with Teller front and center. The performance includes a fire act, acrobatics, and death-defying stunts that leave the audience and Penn & Teller amazed.
In “Teller Gets Smashed,” each of the performers brings something unique and fresh to the show, with some of the illusions leaving Penn & Teller completely baffled. The episode showcases the incredible talent and ingenuity of the world’s top magicians, with Teller’s involvement adding a new layer of excitement to the show. As usual, the show is a delight for all fans of magic and illusion, promising plenty of surprises, suspense, and awe-inspired moments from beginning to end.
