The Tverdokhlebova battalion receives an order to clear the town of Mlynov from the Germans and Polizei who hid there, who had not managed to escape in retreat. The soldier Bulyga rapes the girl who came to him. Grandfather Zoyka comes to the battalion commander with a demand to punish the offender, but the girl, shocked by the incident, refuses to identify the rapist.
