Jeremy has gone to stay with Tony after his disastrous relationship with Big Suze. Tony tries to coax Jez into looking on the bright side, but it's proving difficult. Meanwhile, Mark is preparing to go on a weekend away with Sophie, in an attempt to stake his claim and win her back from her new boyfriend.

At Tony's house, Jez is feeling down and out, questioning his choices in life. Tony tries to cheer him up by suggesting they go for a walk and enjoy the countryside, but Jez isn't convinced it will do him any good. Nevertheless, they head off to Quantocking, a quaint village famous for its picturesque beauty.

On the walk, Tony tries his best to lift Jez's spirits, pointing out the scenic surroundings and encouraging him to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. However, Jez remains sullen and uninterested, unable to see the beauty around him. Tony decides to take a different approach and suggests they indulge in some of Quantocking's local delights—toadstool spotting and bird-watching. Jez reluctantly agrees, hoping it might provide a distraction from his troubles.

Meanwhile, back in London, Mark is busy packing for his weekend away with Sophie. He's determined to impress her and win her back, hoping that this romantic getaway will rekindle their old spark. As he packs his bags, he ponders on the state of their relationship and wonders if Sophie still has feelings for him.

Mark arrives at Sophie's apartment to pick her up. They exchange awkward pleasantries as Sophie's new boyfriend, Jeff, hovers in the background. Mark tries to remain calm and composed, despite his inner turmoil. He takes Sophie's bags and they head off on their journey, leaving behind a slightly puzzled Jeff.

In Quantocking, Jez and Tony are still engaged in their newfound hobbies. Jez reluctantly joins Tony in toadstool spotting, but his heart isn't in it. Tony, on the other hand, seems genuinely fascinated by the fungi they encounter, marveling at their various shapes and sizes. Jez, however, sees it as just another pointless activity that won't solve his problems.

As the day progresses, Jez and Tony stumble upon a bird-watching group led by a passionate enthusiast named Simon. Simon quickly takes a liking to Tony, impressed by his knowledge of ornithology. Jez, feeling left out and disinterested, starts to drift away from the group. He wanders off into the woods, seeking solace from his own thoughts.

Mark and Sophie have arrived at their destination—a cozy cabin in the countryside. Mark is determined to make the most of their time together, planning romantic activities and surprises. He hopes that by showing Sophie how much effort he's willing to put into their relationship, she'll realize they belong together. Sophie, however, seems slightly distant, keeping Mark at arm's length.

Back in Quantocking, Jez finds himself lost in the woods. The lush greenery and serene atmosphere momentarily captivate him, distracting him from his gloomy thoughts. As he wanders deeper into the forest, he stumbles upon an unexpected surprise—an eccentric hermit named 'Crack Fox.' Crack Fox, played by Noel Fielding, is a bizarre character who lives off the land and possesses a uniquely quirky personality.

Jez is simultaneously intrigued and alarmed by Crack Fox, unsure of whether to engage in conversation or run for his life. Through their strange interaction, Jez gains a new perspective on his own problems. Crack Fox's unconventional wisdom and outlook on life inspire Jez to reevaluate his own choices and embrace the unpredictability of the world.

Meanwhile, Mark's attempts at romance continue to fall flat. Sophie remains distant and unresponsive, leaving Mark feeling increasingly disheartened. He wonders if his efforts are in vain and if Sophie has truly moved on. Despite his disappointment, Mark soldiers on, determined to salvage their weekend and prove his worth.

As the day draws to a close, Jez finally reunites with Tony and the bird-watching group. He shares his encounter with Crack Fox, recounting the peculiar wisdom he gained from their conversation. Tony and Simon are intrigued by Jez's tale, offering their own interpretations of Crack Fox's unconventional advice.

Back at the cabin, Mark and Sophie find themselves in a moment of truth. Their weekend away has tested their connection, revealing the cracks in their relationship. They must confront their feelings and decide whether they want to give their love another chance or finally let go.

"Quantocking" explores themes of self-discovery, resilience, and the search for meaning amidst life's challenges. Through their respective journeys, Jez and Mark grapple with their own insecurities, seeking answers and ultimately finding a glimmer of hope in unexpected places.
