Ep 4. Go Away, Gorilla / Mama for a Day
- March 28, 1998
PB&J Otter follows the adventures of a family of otters who live in the town of Lake Hoohaw. In season 1 episode 4, titled "Go Away, Gorilla / Mama for a Day," the Otter family faces two separate challenges.
In the first half of the episode, the Otters are playing a game of hide-and-seek when they encounter a gorilla who has wandered into their yard. The gorilla is friendly, but the Otters are nervous and want him to leave. They try various tactics to get him to go away, including hiding from him, scaring him with a fake monster, and asking nicely. However, nothing seems to work, and the gorilla continues to hang around.
Meanwhile, in the second half of the episode, Jelly feels left out when she realizes that she doesn't have a "job" like her older brother and sister. She decides to become a mother for the day and takes care of a baby doll. Her siblings and parents try to help her out, but Jelly is determined to do everything herself. However, she quickly realizes that taking care of a baby is harder than she thought and asks for help from her family.
Both storylines in this episode center around problem-solving and the importance of asking for help when needed. The first half shows the Otters trying different strategies to solve a problem, while the second half shows Jelly learning that it's okay to ask for assistance when faced with a new challenge.
"Go Away, Gorilla / Mama for a Day" also highlights some of the themes that run throughout PB&J Otter, such as the importance of family, friendship, and communication. The Otters work together to come up with solutions to their problems, and they rely on each other for support and guidance.
Overall, "Go Away, Gorilla / Mama for a Day" is a charming and fun episode of a beloved children's show. With its engaging characters, upbeat music, and positive messages, it's no wonder that PB&J Otter remains a fondly remembered part of many childhoods.
