As the third season of Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs draws to a close, episode 10 sees the beloved presenter and animal lover continuing his work at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London. Paul has spent many weeks gaining the trust of the animals he works with, earning the nickname "Uncle Paul" from the staff and residents at the shelter.
The episode begins with Paul meeting a new arrival named Frizzle, a lively Terrier mix who has been brought in after her owner fell ill. Frizzle is initially nervous around Paul, but she soon warms up to him as he introduces her to the other dogs and shows her around the kennels. Paul is determined to find Frizzle a loving home, and he spends time playing with her and getting to know her personality so that he can match her with a suitable family.
Next, we see Paul spending time with a pair of senior dogs, Daisy and Duke. The two dogs are best friends and have been living at the shelter for a few weeks. Paul is keen to help them find a home together, as they both suffer from arthritis and would benefit from having each other for company. He takes them for a gentle walk around the Battersea park, enjoying the sunshine and watching as they sniff around and explore the new surroundings.
As the day wears on, Paul is given the task of shampooing and grooming a group of dogs who are preparing to be adopted. He has to work quickly and efficiently to wash and dry the fidgety pups, but he takes it all in his stride and soon has them looking clean and smelling sweet. The dogs seem to enjoy the attention, and Paul takes the opportunity to give them all a cuddle and a treat before they go off to meet their new families.
Later in the episode, we see Paul visiting a local school to talk to the children about animal welfare. He brings along a selection of rescue dogs in the hope of teaching the youngsters about the importance of adoption and responsible pet ownership. The children are enchanted by the dogs, and many of them are eager to learn more about how they can help care for animals in need.
As the episode draws to a close, we see Paul saying goodbye to some of the dogs who have been adopted during his time at the shelter. He takes the time to give each of them a final cuddle and to wish them luck in their new homes. It's clear that Paul has formed a strong bond with many of the dogs he has worked with, and his genuine affection and care for them shines through in every moment of the episode.
