John Tavner, the brilliant and tormented former intelligence officer turned industrial piping engineer, is back in season two of Patriot. In episode eight, titled "Escape From Paris," John's dangerous mission continues to take him across Europe as he works to prevent nuclear catastrophe.
The episode opens with John and Leslie driving through the streets of Paris, frantically trying to escape from the French authorities who are hot on their trail. John's plan to blow up the Iranian embassy has gone awry, and now he and Leslie must evade capture at all costs.
As they weave through traffic and alleyways, John and Leslie narrowly avoid being captured by the French police. But their luck runs out when their car is hit by a truck and they are forced to flee on foot. They find refuge in a nearby hotel, where they spend the night hiding from the authorities.
Meanwhile, Alice, John's wife, is dealing with her own set of problems back in the United States. She is being blackmailed by her husband's former boss, who is threatening to expose her involvement in John's illegal activities. Alice must find a way to keep her family safe without giving in to the extortion.
Back in Paris, John and Leslie devise a plan to escape the city and continue their mission. They decide to build a makeshift hot air balloon and float over the French border into Switzerland. John uses his engineering skills to construct the balloon, while Leslie secures the necessary supplies.
As they prepare for their escape, John and Leslie begin to open up to each other about their past traumas and failures. Leslie reveals that she was once a successful journalist, but gave up her career to care for her dying mother. John admits that he no longer feels like he has a purpose in life since leaving the intelligence community.
Their deep conversation is interrupted when they discover that their hotel room has been bugged by the French police. They quickly pack up their supplies and make a run for it, narrowly avoiding being caught once again.
When they reach the outskirts of Paris, John and Leslie inflate their hot air balloon and prepare for takeoff. However, their plan is once again foiled when they are intercepted by a group of armed men. It turns out that Leslie's journalist ex-boyfriend had tipped off the authorities about their plan.
John and Leslie are taken to an abandoned warehouse, where they are interrogated by the men. But John is able to use his wits and quick thinking to turn the tables on their captors and escape once again. They make a run for the balloon, which is still tethered to the ground, and take off into the sky.
The episode ends with John and Leslie soaring over the French countryside, free and on their way to Switzerland. However, their troubles are far from over, as they still have a dangerous mission to complete and enemies all around them.
"Escape From Paris" is a tense and thrilling episode that showcases the incredible chemistry between John and Leslie. Their conversations are deep and emotional, and their shared history and trauma make them incredibly sympathetic characters. The episode also continues to build the tension of John's mission, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next.
