John Tavner, the lead character in Patriot, must leave the safety of his newly established routine in Luxembourg to return to the United States, and in the third episode, he continues his mission to deliver a bag of cash to an exchange in Iran. In McMillan Man, Tavner drives to Chicago to visit his old friend, Leslie Claret, for some help with his mission. Claret is an eccentric inventor who has created a unique device that will help Tavner get the cash into Iran. The device allows Tavner to bypass airport security and keep the cash safe in his stomach.
Meanwhile, back in Luxembourg, Tavner's brother, Edward, is having troubles of his own. He is being pressured by his boss to deliver a speech at a conference, but he is struggling with stage fright. Desperate for a solution, he turns to his co-worker, Maggie, for help. Maggie is an amateur therapist and suggests that they try an experimental treatment involving the use of MDMA. Despite his initial reluctance, Edward agrees to try the treatment, and the drugs provide him with some much-needed relief.
Back in Chicago, Tavner and Claret test the device and find that it works perfectly. Tavner swallows the cash and heads back to Luxembourg to catch his flight to Iran. However, things don't go exactly as planned. Tavner is stopped at the airport in Brussels and is forced to go through a full-body scan. The device starts to malfunction, and Tavner must act quickly to save himself and the cash from being discovered.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wondering what will happen to Tavner and the cash. Will he be able to make it to Iran and complete his mission? Or will he be caught and thrown into prison? These questions, along with the ongoing struggles of Edward and the rest of the Tavner family, create a tense and engaging narrative that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire season.
