In the series finale of Parks & Recreation, titled "One Last Ride," the episode follows the characters six years into the future. Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, is working for the National Parks Service in Washington D.C. and is being considered for the job of Regional Director. The episode is structured around a final, nostalgic visit to the Pawnee Parks and Recreation department, which Leslie infiltrates with the excuse of retrieving a time capsule that they had all buried years back.
Once there, Leslie runs into the rest of the gang: Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) and April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) are now running Congressman Andy Dwyer's charity; Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) has sold Rent-A-Swag and is now a successful businessman in Beverly Hills; Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) has opened his dream business - a successful woodworking shop; Donna Meagle (Retta) has left the Parks Department and become a successful real estate agent; Craig Middlebrooks (Billy Eichner) is now a Parks Department employee and happily married; and Jerry/Gary/Larry (Jim O'Heir) has retired and is finally living his best life.
Throughout the episode, we see the gang reminisce and take one last trip around the town they all grew up in. Along the way, they encounter old friends and former foes, including Tammy Two and Dennis Feinstein. We also see each of the characters' personal lives in the future, including their families and what they've accomplished in their careers. Despite the changes in their lives, the characters still have their old dynamic and their love for each other.
As Leslie prepares to leave Pawnee, she approaches the rest of the gang to ask if they'd be interested in coming back to the Parks Department one final time to finish the work they all started. The gang agrees, and they work together to complete a project to honor their time in Pawnee before Leslie leaves for her new job.
The episode is filled with callbacks to earlier episodes and has several emotional moments. Throughout the series finale, we see how much the characters have grown and how much they've accomplished in their lives. "One Last Ride" is a fitting end to a beloved show and leaves fans with a sense of closure and satisfaction.
