Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt are getting ready to spend the day at the Pawnee Farmers Market, while Tom Haverford is working his first day at Rent-A-Swag's latest store. Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate are trying to make a quick buck by creating a game called "The Box of Lies". Meanwhile, Chris Traeger is trying to find a creative way to announce the gender of his baby with his wife Millicent Gergich, while Ron Swanson is trying to avoid Tammy 2.
At the farmers market, Leslie is excited to showcase her new idea for Pawnee Commons, a green space that would connect the city's parks and create a nature preserve. She plans to use the farmers market as a chance to gather signatures for a petition in support of the project. However, Leslie soon discovers that one of the vendors at the market is against her project, and his vocal opposition threatens to derail her plans.
Meanwhile, Ben is excited to try all the fresh produce, but quickly realizes that he has no idea what to do with most of it. He enlists the help of Donna Meagle, who teaches him how to make a delicious salad using some of the more unusual vegetables. Ben is thrilled with the results and decides to enter his salad into the farmers market's cooking competition.
At Rent-A-Swag, Tom is struggling to make a sale on his first day. He tries to impress a group of high school students by showing off the latest fashion trends, but they are not interested in anything he has to offer. Tom is disheartened, but he soon finds a way to connect with the students and make a sale by using his own personal style.
Back at the farmers market, Andy and April are having a blast playing "The Box of Lies" with passersby. They make a decent amount of money, but their game is quickly shut down by the city due to its unlicensed nature.
Chris and Millicent are struggling to come up with a way to announce the gender of their baby, as they want it to be something creative and unique. They try a few different ideas, but nothing seems to work. Eventually, Chris has a breakthrough and comes up with something that is both heartwarming and hilarious.
Ron is doing his best to avoid Tammy 2, his ex-wife who he had a tumultuous relationship with. He manages to dodge her for most of the day, but eventually, she catches up with him. Ron is prepared to have one of their classic explosive arguments, but much to his surprise, Tammy 2 has changed her ways and is apologetic for her past behavior.
As the day at the farmers market comes to a close, Leslie is worried that she hasn't gotten enough signatures for her Pawnee Commons project. However, she is pleasantly surprised to find out that her opponent has had a change of heart and now supports the project. Ben's salad wins first prize in the cooking competition, Tom makes his first sale at Rent-A-Swag, and Chris and Millicent have a successful and hilarious gender reveal. Andy and April may not have made much money with "The Box of Lies", but they definitely had a good time. Ron and Tammy 2 part on good terms, much to Ron's disbelief. All in all, it was a successful day at the farmers market for the Parks and Recreation gang.
