In Parks & Recreation season 2 episode 11, titled "Tom's Divorce", the department is thrown into chaos when Tom's wife Wendy serves him with divorce papers. While Tom initially seems nonchalant about the whole thing, it soon becomes clear that he's struggling to come to terms with the end of his marriage.
Meanwhile, Leslie is determined to cheer Tom up and takes it upon herself to plan a "divorce party" for him. However, her efforts to make the event fun and lighthearted only seem to push Tom further into his sadness.
As the night wears on, the rest of the department attempts to distract themselves from the awkwardness of the situation. April and Andy try to get Ron to relax and have some fun, while Ann and Mark spar over their differing opinions on relationships.
Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of Tom's life with Wendy and how their relationship began to fall apart. It's clear that he still has strong feelings for her, despite the problems they faced in their marriage.
In the end, Tom is forced to confront his emotions head-on when he runs into Wendy unexpectedly. The encounter is emotional and tense, but ultimately allows Tom to face his feelings and begin the healing process.
Overall, "Tom's Divorce" is a poignant and often humorous look at the end of a marriage and the impact it has on those around us. With solid performances from the entire cast and a thoughtful script, it's a standout episode of Parks & Recreation's second season.
